Grant Thornton delivers knockout charity boost

Friday 13 July 2012

For the third year running, business advisory firm Grant Thornton has hosted the legendary It’s a Knockout in Sheffield as part of the Master Cutler Challenge and this year nine local businesses and professional services firms joined the fun, raising £3,700 for Cavendish Cancer Care.

The event, which took place at HSBC Sports Club on Hathersage Road, saw the eight-person teams going head to head in a series of entertaining, Olympics-themed games designed to test their cunning, guile, speed and agility, before relaxing with a barbecue.

“Seeing colleagues and peers dressed in the most ridiculous costumes, taking part in hilarious games, is a great bonding experience; it’s probably the best team building and networking event of the year,” said Michelle Askham of Grant Thornton in Sheffield.

“As well as being fantastic fun, the It’s a Knockout event is also a great way of raising funds for very worthwhile charities in the local community.  Cavendish Cancer Care is a fantastic charity that cares for individuals and their families in the region affected by cancer.  Many thanks to all of the local businesses and professional firms which once again supported the event.”

Jonny Cole of the fundraising team at Cavendish Cancer Care, comments: "The Grant Thornton It's A Knockout event is exactly what the Master Cutler's Challenge is all about - the teamwork needed to be successful at It's a Knockout is exactly the same for Master Cutler Teams.

Most importantly, everyone had a fantastic time while raising vital funds to support local people affected by a diagnosis of cancer. Cavendish Cancer Care is delighted to be supported by Grant Thornton and all the teams that took part -  thanks to all those involved."

Cavendish Cancer Care is an independent charity set up nearly 20 years ago to give free emotional care and support to people affected by cancer in Yorkshire and Derbyshire.  It has been chosen by Master Cutler Pam Liversidge as her chosen charity for her year in office.
